Alexandra Kahl`s journey into fashion began with selling menswear, particularly ties, which sparked her love for handcrafted products.
During her master's degree in fashion design, she explored various looks incorporating ties, laying the foundation for her future work.
Kahl's vision expanded as she collected numerous ties to develop her projects into tangible products. A significant contribution came from a retired friend's dad, who generously donated a large number of beautiful ties that were no longer in use. This act not only provided valuable material but also highlighted the potential of repurposing items languishing in people's wardrobes.
The process of crafting these ties into new products involved considerable effort and dedication. However, Kahl's commitment to her vision drove her forward. Through her work, she aimed to breathe new life into these forgotten pieces while challenging traditional perceptions of fashion and masculinity.

The second hand ties were crafted in different countries. We cannot always say exactly in which country the ties were made, as sometimes the labels have been removed. The subsequent production steps take place in Hamburg Germany in our studio.

Unique items
Each item is unique due to the fact that all ties are second hand. It is very rare to receive the same tie twice. We cannot reproduce the same item exactly again. When a product is sold, it is sold.

The different designs of the ties fascinate us. Colours, stripes, dots, patterns of all kind- an endless library of fabric design and weaving culture make our hearts feel so warm.
We have spent a lot of time and love collecting some treasures from old wardrobes to transform them into new clothing.
The KAHL brand has just been born with the intention of changing the fashion industry to have a positive impact. Since we have all become more and more aware that our resources on the planet are not finite, it is even more important to treat these resources carefully. For us in design it is therefore important to develop new design strategies. This is a major task that we are taking on. Always keep in mind- re-use, reduce, re-do.
The tie itself is a handcrafted product and we want to keep the craftmenship within the product alive. Embrace the change and be part of it.
